Years ago I heard author Barry Lopez give a reading at the Tattered Cover Bookstore in Denver. He was promoting a new book, and the Tattered is one of those stops out West any serious book tour hits.
That evening he wore a faded red oxford shirt, Levis, boots, a glove leather belt with a turquoise-studded buckle, and a brown messenger bag on his shoulder. Lopez is not an overpowering man, and it was clear he’d made the choice for a bag that wasn’t either. He carried himself with that manly confidence that doesn’t need to show-off. His brown messenger bag was a good fit.
Our classic vintage messenger bag strikes that same chord in being purely what it is – a damn fine leather full grain leather bag that’s a good fit. Is it impressive? Absolutely, but in that confident spirit of men who are no longer boys, men with no need to show-off, men who are at ease with themselves.
